Markstave in a rune reading is just a fancy way of saying that when you pull the rune out of its pouch there is no rune visible.  You physically have to turn the rune around in order to see what the rune is.  Another way of saying this is that, when you cast the runes some of them will be UPSIDE DOWN.  The upside down runes are said to be MARKSTAVE, in many paths the Markstave runes are not read, In other paths the markstave runes are basically read the same as REVERSED runes and often are more severe.

Divinary meanings: Triumphant return, great news,   The type of news that a KING’S court would want to hear at any cost.  it is expectation crowned with its own desire, the crown of hope, a light at the end of the long dark tunnel.

Reversed: Apprehension, fear as in a victorious enemy at the gate; treachery, disloyalty as in the gates are opened by the enemy; also indefinite delay.

Divinary meanings: Presents, gifts, gratification, attention, vigilance now is the accepted time, present prosperity, etc. generosity.  giving of yourself to others, be it money, time or just being an ear for someone to talk to.  You have plenty to share, just remember not to get yourself into trouble in the process.

Reversed:  desire,  envy,  jealousy,  illusion.

Magickal uses: Use in rite where you want to volunteer your services but do not know what, where, when or how.

Divinatory meanings: This is a card of the past and memories, looking back as for example on childhood; happiness, enjoyment, but coming rather from the past; things that have vanished.  Child like wonderment in all things both past and present. New environment, and then the children are moving on to something new and exciting.

Reversed: the future, renewal, that which comes to pass in the hear and now.

Magickal uses:  Use in rites and spells when you are feeling a touch of melancholy and need to have that child like wonderment return to you for what ever reason you may have.
